How To Improve Your Push Ups Arm Position

The starting point for improving any skill-based activity is to ensure you’re using the correct technique.

If we set ourselves up to do push ups the wrong way, we make the activity much more difficult for ourselves than it needs to be.

It’s important to ensure the arms are in a vertical position and that they’re not sloping away from the body towards the front. The head position must be further forward than the hands in order to keep the arms in the correct vertical position.

If you are performing push-ups on your knees to reduce some of the resistance, try to ensure your hips are pushed down to create a straight back. A common fault is to have the back side pushing back so that the upper legs become vertical. This is incorrect and leads to the head position falling in line with the hands.

Keep the hips down when pushing up on the knees and always place the head further forward than the hand placement to ensure the correct foundations are formed. This platform allows a strong position from which the correct technique can return the maximum balance, leverage and potential power.

Enjoy your push-ups! Don’t forget to always do a couple of extra push-ups. I know you’ve got it in you!
